“Super Mario on LSD”. The scene of primitive chip scrap merchants that recycle Nintendos and Game Boys with perverse intentions: new music! A film that transcends the alienness of a private club and becomes a monument to a beautiful (and egalitarian) art.

Some call it "SuperMario on acid". 8 bit music – or chipmusic – is the brainchild of primitive chip merchants that recycle Nintendos and GameBoys with perverse intentions: new music! Peeps modifying objects to give them new meaning: artists that restore ancient artifacts so something new rises from the ashes of their bones. But Europe in 8 Bits isn't just informative and captivating; it's also downright hilarious. The film transcends the alienness of a private club and becomes a monument to a beautiful (and egalitarian) art. The artists represented here refuse to define what they do, but their enthusiasm is undeniable. There is joy and fervor as Goto80, Culomono, Kenobit, Henry Homesweet, Meneo, Bubbly Fish and many others offer us a history and practice class on chipmusic: from Commodore 64 to the first '80s games musicians (Rob Hubbard and Ben Daglish and their "unmistakable hysteria"), on the technical – not egotistical – competitiveness to the creation of the nanoloop and the Little Sound DJ. National artists also feature: the Catalan, Ralp and the Asturian-Valencian Fela Borbone ("It gets you moving, the sound of 8 bits; like an alarm telling you that you're going to die") complete a passionate documentary that will convert the unfamiliar and convince the pious.
