Kevin Rowland, of Dexy's Midnight Runners (now known as Dexys), has always maintained a stubborn moral inventory. Self-crucifixion. Rowland has risen, fallen, stumbled, bled for us and redeemed himself. Nowhere is Home is an act of justice and a well-earned revival. Heavenly Films captures Dexys' comeback following centuries away from the theaters ("I didn't wait 26 years to play the lowest common denominator. This is the most important thing for me.") and juxtaposes it with a long interview with Rowland and his hitmen. Rowland reveals himself here as the obsessive, nervous, tortured and solitary man we've met before, but in Nowhere is Home he reexamines himself before the cameras in an exhaustive layman's confession. From his mouth, come opinions on social class, rock n roll "I'd like to be a rock n roller but I'm not (...) I'm too uptight. I've never been able to do all that hippy thing"), show, acolytes and moments of pure, strong blinding inspiration. Rowland atones for his remaining sins through song, and that's why we admire his new live album, from "Incapable of love" to "Lost", alongside the favorites "This is what she's like" and "Tell me when my lights turn green". It's OK, Kevin. It will all work out fine, in the end.
